The socio-economic dynamics of innovation working group is under the inclusive economic development division of the HSRC. The SDI working group aims to promote advances in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) for inclusive socioeconomic transformation.
The SDI unit’s research activities extend longstanding and continuing initiatives about innovation for inclusive transformation and builds on the strong relationships with relevant government agencies, communities and academic counterparts. We contribute to knowledge around STI in two work streams: The Local Innovation Advancement Toolbox (LIAT) and the Municipal Innovation Maturity Index (MIMI). The LIAT aims to promote innovation by local actors to stimulate innovation-driven local economic development (LED). The MIMI is an interactive information and decision instrument that helps municipalities to strengthen and continually improve their own innovation activities or practices.
