LIAT has two broad themes; the Karoo Innovation Landscape Mapping and the LIAT communities of practice.
Projects under the Karoo Innovation Landscape Mapping focus on identifying and mapping innovation systems and innovation value-chains in different local contexts using the LIAT tools. The LIAT tools are a set of information and decision support tools used to identify, assess and promote innovation in local settings, with a particular focus on the rural and informal economy. The evolving tools further assists with engagements with local actors in improving learning and innovation.
The LIAT communities of practice project aims to facilitate the establishment of innovation communities of practice (CoP) among local actors for innovation driven LED in select district municipalities. The LIAT CoP project aims to enhance networking and learning among multiple actors to ensure sustainable embeddedness/integration of LIAT in municipal business and LED.
